del.icio.us importer

You wanted it, you got it. This has been one of our top requests since launch. You can now import your del.icio.us bookmarks over to Blue Dot. We'll automatically sort them based on when they were created, set the same permissions you had on the bookmarks, and add them as Dots. Check it out here: http://bluedot.us/DeliciousImporter.aspx Tip: You can find this, and other nifty tools in your My Account page. Hidden gems include RSS feeds, our syndication widget, and auto-dotting from your blog.

Publishing Problem

We're investigating another problem with Dot publishing we found tonight. For about the last hour, some users have been reporting being unable to create new dots. Our engineers are looking at the problem now ... actually I hear it's fixed now. We had an issue with one of our disk drives in the data center. Sorry for the inconvenience (especially to our Japanese customers where it's 2pm - as opposed to 10pm here on the West coast).

Hiccup

Our site was down for about ½ hour this morning (Friday, July 14). Sorry about that! We resolved the problem and should be back up and running at full speed. We have another really cool feature to talk about next week … stay tuned!

New Site Release: 20060713

New Stuff! New Stuff! We've been working on some fun things that make the Blue Dot experience better and today we've put out a new release including some new features: - Improved auto-tagging – We've upgraded the intelligence which suggests tags for your Dots. We're making Dotting as quick and intuitive as possible. - Improved searching – We've made some backend search improvements which yield more related results and make things even zippier. - * Blue Dot Mobile Search– **DISCLAIMER: This product is seriously in alpha and has not been tested on many phone platforms.** We've put out our first stab at a mobile Blue Dot service! Right now, it's basically a way for you to search the Dots of you and your friends. Use it when you're out on the town and want to get restaurant recommendations, movie ideas, etc. Let us know if it works for you and what you'd like to see in future development! Point your phone here and give it a whirl: http://bluedot.us/m And just because a bunch of you have been asking about it, we have also begun work on getting a working set of APIs (both for getting content in and getting content out of Blue Dot). We've got the first versions up and running internally and will continue development of them over the forthcoming weeks. Expect to hear more from us soon!

Deploying!

The team is adding some features to the site right now - which is why you are getting this page! Check back in about 15 minutes! Thanks for your patience :) -Kabir.

Can't Stop, Won't Stop...

A special prize for the first person who can tell me where the title of this blog entry is from. Yes, some may find it corny - but it's just so appropriate for us right now! Things have been kind of crazy the past few days - in a great way. As some of you know, we made the front page of digg on Friday. I have to admit, that was pretty awesome. I was out with Sung when Mohit called with the news, and we almost dumped $3 pitchers of PBR all over each other (not really, but that would be pretty funny wouldn't it?) Thanks to webtech for submitting us (whoever you are)! If you haven't seen the post yet, check it out here. There have also been some pretty cool personal blog mentions as well. Here is one of my favorites: From Digital Village: "You won't find me on friendster or facebook but today I staked my claim on a little digital space I have found useful. The site bluedot.us is now on my tool bar and I believe will remain there for some time. Connecting with like minded folks is a daunting task that seems much easier on BlueDot. " HAWT And the party is just getting started. We're releasing a couple exciting features this week, which I'm sure Eric will let everyone know about as soon as we put them on the site. And we're getting set on the release after that - and I have to admit I'm pretty stoked about what's in the hopper. I'm gonna head out now, but I'll leave you with a response to this comment by Nikki... Comment: "Kabir - You're not a gang or GANGSTA until you have a gang sign! Lemme see it! Where'd the BD gang sign?" Response:
Boom - the Blue Dot gang sign .. cause that's how we roll!

The Blue Dot Gnomedex 2006 Presentation

As you may have heard, Blue Dot presented to the crowd at Gnomedex on June 30th for our official launch. Watch Kabir, accompanied by beautiful flash sides (thank you, Sung!) explain the Blue Dot mission and show off the site.

Sneaky Blue Dot got scooped by the International Bloggers!

A couple weeks ago we put out a site release that exposed us, for the first time ever, to anyone who wanted to sign up and try out Blue Dot. We didn't really tell any press about it because we were officially launching at Gnomedex (we had a second ultra-sneaky release just prior to our release there). Well, much to our happy chagrin, people found out about our secret little release and started writing about it anyways. The first mention I found was by someone running a Spanish blog site called WWWhat's new? and the writeup was titled "BlueDot - Conocer las páginas preferidas de tus amigos." Nice job on the initial scoop! The second mention was another Spanish blog - this one was called Genbeta and had a bit larger of a following. Their article was called "BlueDot, agregador social de sitios que te interesan." This person gave a little shout out to "WWWhat's new?" for the original scoop. From those first mentions, things got a little crazy. We got picked up by a Chinese blogger and a Japanese blog called "Web 2.0 Style." All of this before our launch made it into any English blogs. Props go out to Brian Benzinger for getting the first English Blue Dot blog-post after our launch on his most-excellent blog Solution Watch. Brian did a great and thoughtful write-up and we were quite pleased. And to date, our largest traffic has been sent from a Polish blog! That was not something we expected. I used an online translator to try and make heads or tails of what they were saying and I came up with a title of something like "Fresh idea on social bookmarking" and a first line that read something like:
(Translated from Polish) "At last something acts original. In whole bay of next maple (clone) del.icio.us and service has appeared technorati bluedot.us"
I thought that sounded pretty nice so thanks a lot!
